For decades, experimental musicians have been developing compositions in which two or more pieces are meant to be played together, either in or out of sync (e.g. Éliane Radigue's *Vice Versa*, The Flaming Lips' *Zaireeka*, etc.) Although the technology for simultaneous playback on one device has technically been available for many years now, it has typically required the use of either separate media players, or programs that allow for "multiple instances".
TwineTrack was developed to address this issue: it is a basic media player app that was designed specifically to facilitate the simultaneous playback of two separate audio files. It is packaged with five different "sound packs" meant to demonstrate the capability of the app: "Poce" (the original "proof of concept" recording) and "Opening Credits" are the most "song-like" in structure, "Night Shift on the Nostromo" is a sci-fi soundscape, "Sinaural" uses sine waves to create shifting "binaural beat" auditory illusions, and "Moss Garden Revisited" uses short samples to create an "infinite remix" of the classic Bowie/Eno track.
Instructions: tap the "music library" icon in the upper left to load the "first half" of a composition, and then the same icon on the lower left to load the "second half". Tracks will loop automatically and, because they are different lengths, generate a composition that lasts many hours before truly repeating, e.g. "Moss Garden Revisited" plays for over 4.8 hours before "starting over".
