A historic ship once again docks. The legendary ship, Mataroa, rescued
Greece’s young intelligentsia, in December 1945, by taking them on a journey
which eventually takes them to Paris. Even though it has been over a century
that the ship ended up as scrap metal, it makes its return! Babis Venetopoulos
and George Venetopoulos have created a digital installation on the occasion
of the film’s premier “Mataroa. The journey goes on…” directed and produced
by Andreas Siadimas, at the 21 st Thessaloniki Documentary Festival. The
return of Mataroa to Greek waters after almost 75 years, from another
dimension, that of the “invisible to visibility” through a different medium and in
another time period, raises once more the discussion about the necessity of
this journey, and how the current circumstances still make it relevant today.
