The vision for this project is to encourage the recycling of plastic bottles, cans, and containers within our community and to reduce CO2 emission levels through the development of a mobile application.
Most municipalities within British Columbia provide services to dispose of garbage, paper-based recyclables, and organic waste. There is however a lack of support for recyclables such as bottles and cans. This forces residents to collect and return their cans and bottles to the nearest bottle depot. As a result, some residents may inappropriately dispose of these recyclables. Additionally, those who correctly return their bottles and cans are almost always forced to drive, thus increasing carbon emissions.
The app will use Google Maps API to plot geolocation data which will represent a user requesting their cans to be picked up.
The use of our application will allow users to save money through collecting and recycling cans, bottles, and containers. It will also create a convenient method for users to eliminate the recyclables from their homes through the pickup service.
