For hundreds of years now Indian civilization has been at the forefront of experimenting with news consumption and dissemination through uniquely participative devices colored with individual and community opinions. Until not so long ago the primary node of news consumption and opinion making used to begin at the nukkad (street corner assembly of people) gathering of every village, town and city. For every new entrant into a town, the first news point usually began at the backseat of a Tonga (a horse-driven carriage).
As technology started to consume the news space through first print, then broadcast and finally digital media, opinions were sought to be molded at a more centralized news dissemination point. With the advent of social media, the civilizational interface with opinion making is finally completing its full circle as once again news consumption is getting decentralized. Project Tonga Trail attempts to ride this final quadrant of the news circle even as India is awakening to a new dawn.
