An Official US Navy mobile application, produced by the Navy PMW 240 Program.
The CLREC Navy Global Deployer application – REVISED AND EXPANDED IN FALL 2018 – provides Navy personnel and others with training products, courses and aids to increase their understanding of cultures around the world. A product of the Navy’s Center for Language, Regional Expertise and Culture (CLREC), the app is a Ready Relevant Learning tool that supports the requirement for cultural awareness and language familiarization.
The app helps users learn cultural and societal norms unique to each country in an effort to facilitate successful missions, whether the mission is a high-level engagement, liberty or living overseas. This version of the app focuses on 57 countries and territories, their languages and cultures:
-- AFRICOM – Djibouti, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Uganda.
-- CENTCOM – Afghanistan, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE.
-- EUCOM – Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Ukraine.
-- NORTHCOM/SOUTHCOM – Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Peru.
-- PACOM – Australia, China, Guam, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Micronesia, Okinawa, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam.
For all 57 cultures, the CLREC Navy Global Deployer provides useful information on such topics as language, history, geography, people, ethnic groups, religious institutions and societal norms, as well as culturally appropriate behavior and etiquette. Given the app’s small initial size, country-specific content can be downloaded and then deleted after use, making room on your device for other content.
Country-specific information in the CLREC Navy Global Deployer App is divided into the following sections:
-- Culture Orientation – The Operational Cultural Awareness Training (OCAT) presentation, or a similar narrated presentation, for each country.
-- Culture Card – Mobile-friendly and printable quick-reference guides covering various aspects of each country’s history, language, and culture.
-- Etiquette Guide – Information on everything from meeting and greeting to cultural values to the significance of common nonverbal gestures.
-- Language Phrases – Useful common phrases with audio recordings to assist with pronunciation.
-- Language Guide – A library of links to free online learning resources for more than 100 languages.
-- Sections detailing General Resources available to the user, Emergency Resources, and a Favorites section that allows users to bookmark and easily access parts of the app they find personally important.
This version of the CLREC Navy Global Deployer adds new Every Deployment a Global Engagement (EDGE) courses and refresher videos from Navy e-Learning. EDGE courses prepare Navy personnel and others, including family members, for an assignment in the Overseas Fleet Concentration Areas of Bahrain, Italy, Japan, South Korea, and Spain. BONUS: This app includes the EDGE Culture Shock course and EDGE videos for the strategically important countries of China, Iran, and Russia.
