The Automated Radiation Measurements for Aerospace Safety (ARMAS) program has been developed through NASA funding to provide accurate, real-time radiation monitoring in the global airspace up to 100 km.
The ARMAS App pairs with the 7th generation ARMAS Flight Module 7 (FM7) detector. Together, they provide the highest quality real-time dose and dose rates in aircraft and suborbital vehicles from all sources of radiation, including heavy ions, alphas, protons, neutrons, electrons, and gamma-rays.
The main functionality of ARMAS App Version 1.X series is to provide a means for monitoring real-time FM7 measured dose and dose rates inside the aircraft or suborbital vehicle.
The main functionality of ARMAS App Version 2.X series is to additionally provide global radiation situational awareness. This is accomplished by providing the current NASA Nowcast of Atmospheric Ionizing Radiation System (NAIRAS) and ARMAS statistical database dose and dose rates for all altitudes above 5 km and for all geomagnetic conditions.
