UpReader is a new way to read websites, ePub & PDF eBooks (Text Only) using your VR headset (Samsung Gear VR, Google Cardboard and Google Daydream*). By blocking out all distractions you get fully immersive reading allowing you to read faster, stay more focused and retain more of the information.
Reading eBooks, news websites or Wikipedia on your smartphone during the daily commute can lead to a stiff, sore neck. UpReader enables you to use simple head gestures to control the text scrolling, eliminating any tapping or swiping. UpReader allows you to view your surroundings while wearing your headset by using the front facing camera.
Switch between READ and PAUSE by looking ahead and performing a "Quick Tilt" head gesture (around 2 seconds ear to shoulder and back) to either the left or right.
You can set the reading speed in the settings and the text will scroll automatically at the speed you choose.
"Look Up" to scroll the text backwards.
"Tilt and Hold" at an angle to go the next web article or PDF page.
Tap on the PAUSE button to lock UpReader and it won't respond to head gestures until you unlock it again.
The help menu contains two short videos showing how to set up your reading experience. The tutorial mode will be enabled on first start and can also be enabled from the help menu. This shows you the head gestures to control reading, pause and scroll back and can be enabled anytime.
*UpReader also includes support for the Google Daydream VR Headset (which doesn’t have an opening for the front facing camera option) - go to Settings and set the Screen Layout to "Off center" and allow the security camera mode.
