ActivityRecommender gives you suggestions for activities to do, and feedback on what you have done, based on personalized, timestamped data that you record
For a fuller description of ActivityRecommender's features, see the documentation at https://github.com/mathjeff/ActivityRecommender/blob/master/ActRec/ActRec/Source/View/FeatureOverviewLayout.cs
Features of ActivityRecommender:
Personalized - you decide which activities exist in your world and what their relationships are. When you first start ActivityRecommender, it has no expectations about which activities may be relevant to you, you can enter anything you like (but if you don't want to have to think of everything yourself, you can still import some premade activities like Sleeping, Eating, Exercise, Fun, etc).
Maximizes longterm happiness - not shortterm happiness. ActivityRecommender does initially guess that activities that make you happy in the short term are likely to make you happy in the long term, but it does model these concepts separately, and as you enter more data it will treat them increasingly differently.
Fast feedback - when you record a participation, ActivityRecommender tells you how it thinks the participation will affect your happiness.
Meaningful relative ratings - ActivityRecommender never asks you to rate your happiness on an absolute scale like 1 to 10, instead it only ever asks you to compare two different participations. This allows you to define your happiness in terms of another value that is still fresh in your mind (your happiness during your previous participation that day).
Fast UI with lots of autocomplete - it only takes a few button (and therefore often only a few seconds!) presses to record a participation.
Provides suggestions - of things to do. This is the feature that ActivityRecommender is named for!
Visualizes data - of your time spent on any activity and of your happiness. You can investigate whether you've been sleeping more, exercising more, working more, or whatever else you like.
Doesn't try to maximize its own usage - measures your happiness and maximizes that. Because you explicitly tell ActivityRecommender how happy you are to have done various activities, ActivityRecommender doesn't assume that using ActivityRecommender more is a sign of being more happy. In fact, every time you ask ActivityRecommender for a suggestion and then you don't take that suggestion, the time between those two events it considers to be of 0 value to you. Consequently it tries to avoid making too many suggestions that you don't like, but most likely it will still make lots of suggestions that you don't like anyway if it thinks that there's a reasonable chance that it will be good for you :)
Measures your efficiency - by running experiments. This one is kind of hard to explain. We could explain it but we'd much rather have you try it out! How would you define and measure efficiency?
You define what to optimize - if you want to optimize something other than happiness, you can do that too. Do you want to optimize how far you run? Although ActivityRecommender assumes that your inputs represent happiness, it can still provide feedback and suggestions even if you interpret the numbers to mean something else.
All runs on the device - doesn't connect to the internet.
No fees or ads. It's free!
Open source - see https://github.com/mathjeff/ActivityRecommender . If you have any ideas for how to make it better, it would be super cool of you to open a bug. Thanks!
