Updated, added free testing out the year! Use the promo code "Aero2019" in the Android app at the bottom of the subscription page. You might need to readd the promo code after updating the app.
- You can now add your own weather parameters for the estimation
- You can now compare your current Cda against your selected Aero Profile on the Garmin device live! This gives easier access to determine how your current position is against your desired goal :)
Read about validating the Cda and Crr data here (with Vuelta Opening Team Time Trial Data)
The terminology aerodynamics is pretty commonly used nowadays in the cycling industry.
The main purpose of this app is being able to calculate the aerodynamic drag (Cda) and the rolling resistance (Crr) on the fly while cycling outside. Thereby the ability to test equipment and see improvements out on the open road.
I am trying to get the estimates as accurate as possible by getting weather data from the web, which is the reason I had to make a subscription service. There are now two subscriptions available, a basic plan and a premium plan. The basic plan gives the possibility to update the weather every 15 minutes up to 3 hours each day and the premium plan is every 10 minutes up to 4 hours each day.
Furthermore, the current version is basing its estimations on the Virtual Elevation approach and the Linear Regression approach described by R. Chung.
This app requires that you have a power meter on your bike and have compatible Garmin device that has downloaded the companion app Aero - Cda & Crr estimate from the Garmin Connect IQ store. The companion app for the Garmin device will store the cda & crr data.
So, what are you waiting for? Lets see how fast your new position is and post your data in the reviews!
