LiRRiL is an app based on scientific research that helps non-native English speakers who are experiencing problems differentiating L and R sounds. Researchers at Carnegie Melon University conducted an experiment on teaching native Japanese speakers differentiate between L and R sounds. Participants were played words with /l/r/ ambiguity, such as ‘play’ – ‘pray’, or ‘long’ – ‘wrong’, and asked to pick the word they heard. At first the participants were not shown whether their answers were correct or wrong, and they scored an average of 50%, which is no better than mere guessing.

The scientists then discovered the secret to teaching their participants the ability to distinguish between L and R sounds. Straight after the participant chose whether he or she heard an L or R sound, they were shown whether their answer was correct or wrong. Only with this instant feedback is the brain able to develop the new ability of being able to differentiate between L and R sounds. Within an hour the participants were able to reach an average score of 80%! Since then more studies have confirmed these groundbreaking results AND show that being able to distinguish between L and R sounds even helps one to better pronounce them in the long term. Get LiRRiL now and be able to differentiate AND pronounce L and R sounds in as little as a few hours!
