******************** THE ORIGIN & HISTORY ********************

Dub reggae (or simply Dub) is a form of reggae music which came forth in the 1960s. Dub is usually considered as a reggae sub-category, but it has apparently grown beyond the musical sphere of reggae. Music in this genre is characterized by a customary use of instrumental remixes of previously-existing recordings, and these recordings are considerably reshaped and manipulated by way of discarding vocals in a music piece, putting a strong emphasis on bass and drum parts (a modified track that is often called a “riddim”), slapping on extensive reverb, panoramic delay, echo, and some occasional dubbing of instrumentals or vocals from the original music piece.

In the 1960s, Dub pioneers include Errol Thompson, Lee "Scratch" Perry, and Osbourne "King Tubby" Ruddock, while recording experiments were done by producers such as Herman Chin Loy and Clive Chin. Most of these producers saw the mixing console as an instrument that allowed them to shape tracks and create something new and unique. Because of Dub’s versatility, it has helped influence a medley of music genres, including pop, rock (particularly punk and post-punk subgenres), hip hop, disco, and eventually techno, house, ambient, and even trip hop. Furthermore, Dub has made its mark in dubstep and jungle/ drum and bass.
