Discover the volcanic risk and eruption history of Vesuvius, the most famous of all volcanoes. Designed by a volcanologist Vesuvius Volcanopedia shows the current eruption probability of this potentially dangerous volcano and the hazard risk to you based on your location. It also includes regularly-updated descriptions and interactive maps of its major eruptions over 40,000 years, English summaries of the official Italian volcano monitoring bulletins, and a night-time seismometer in case the earth moves while you sleep.
Vesuvius Volcanopedia is designed as an authoritative and comprehensive information resource and volcano monitoring tool for both residents and visitors in the Naples-Amalfi region, especially tourists visiting Pompeii, Herculaneum and the Vesuvius summit crater.
Vesuvius Volcanopedia also includes monitoring information for Campi Flegrei, the other large volcano which is a significant potential hazard to Naples, and shows whether you are in the Red or Yellow Volcanic Hazard Zones for both Vesuvius and Campi Flegrei.
*Note: The app will ask permission to use your device location to determine whether you are in a volcanic hazard zone and your proximity to possible volcanic vents. This is especially useful if you are in Campania. If you are not in Campania then it is not so useful and Vesuvius Volcanopedia will operate smoothly if you prefer to deny location permission.
