This mHealth application is part of the programme ‘Making Periods Normal’ which is funded by the Dutch Postcode Lottery and implemented by Simavi, Rutgers, Women on Wings and their local partner organizations. Simavi, Bihar Voluntary Health Association, NextGen eSolutions and Butterfly Works jointly developed this app. The app is developed though a participatory process that involved local NGO staff and beneficiaries – women and girls.
The app provides practical information on menstruation and answer basic questions as; what is menstruation? Why do women menstruate? Can I cook or go to school when menstruating? There is a version in English and a version in Hindi. The mHealth tool also provides information on how to use menstrual products, and the Hindi version provides information on the costs and where to buy them, as well as a map of health services in the area. The app is mainly targeted at girls and women, but also caters for men who want to support their wives, daughters and mothers, but do not know enough about menstruation to support them.
