Princess Beatrixsluis is the greatest monumental river lock of the Netherlands, located in the Lek channel at Nieuwegein. Annually, about 50,000 ships pass the Beatrixsluis and the Lek channel is the main direct waterway connection between the ports of Rotterdam and Amsterdam. The new 3rd lock ensures that maritime traffic can pass safely and smoothly in the future. The ships can pass through the locks significantly faster in the future. Thanks to the larger, broader and deeper lock, the ever larger ships can pass here as well. Also part of the Lekkanaal is widened to make room for additional berths.
