Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. is a leading car maker in India which started out its operations in 1982 in Gurgaon. It was the year 1983 when the company introduced its first model, the legendary Maruti Suzuki 800. By April 2016, the company holds over 47 percent of the market share in the Indian passenger car market. It was founded as a joint venture between Indian government (74 percent stakes) and Japanese auto giant Suzuki Motor Corporation (26 percent stakes) with an aim to make a people’s car for middle-class India.
