Mannix College Student Society is the student club of Mannix College, a fully-catered residential college affiliated with Monash University in Clayton.
Founded in 1969, the MCSS provides academic, cultural, social and sporting activities for its members and, most important, it makes your time at Mannix absolutely unforgettable. The MCSS prides itself on fostering a fun, safe and responsible environment that welcomes new students into the Monash community. It strives to give members value for money and every opportunity to engage and challenge themselves in interesting and rewarding events.
The MCSS ensures that the semester calendar is absolutely loaded with activities for everyone to enjoy and it all begins with their amazing O-Week which welcomes all new students to the College. The MCSS works hard to put on activities to suit every single kind of student at the College and is always receptive to new event ideas. For example, MCSS enters sports teams against the Monash University Halls of Residence, St Mary’s and Queen’s College at the University of Melbourne, the Mannix Old Collegians Society and John XXIII College at the ANU in Canberra.
The MCSS is committed to raising awareness and funds for many social justice and community initiatives including the Red Cross Blood Drives, Shave for A Cure, Movember, Clean up Australia Day, Relay For Life and The 40 Hour Famine.
The MCSS has a strong cultural presence and drive with annual highlights being the full scale theatrical and musical production, the intra-College debating competition and even test students’ knowledge with a trivia evening. The MCSS also coordinates regular music performances, organises lectures and seminars intended to provide life skills and education for its members and it organises a unique themed social function every Thursday of the academic semester (one of the few student societies in Australia to do so on such a grand scale). And finally, it puts on the famous Mannix Ball, which in 2011 was headlined by Ball Park Music in 2012, Loon Lake in 2013 and more recently Lurch and Chief in 2015.
Needless to say, thanks to MCSS there is never a dull moment at Mannix.
