Welcome to the Children's Intelligence Agency (CIA). The CIA is a high-tech spy organisation, and we use critical thinking, computer science + creativity to solve global mysteries. Our app features ‘Hack Mode’, which allows kids to understand how the app works, and to reprogram it to suit their spy needs.
Created by the award-winning Bright Little Labs (named ‘Top Coding Toy for Kids’ by the Evening Standard in 2018 and the Independent in 2017, plus EDF Stem Pulse Award winner in 2017), the CIA app complements England’s KS1 & KS2 Computing Curriculum.
PLEASE NOTE: the Children’s Intelligence Agency is a real spy organisation for kids. Not all of our content is appropriate for adults and we’re nothing to do with the Central Intelligence Agency. We may be shorter, but we’re definitely smarter.
*This app is free with no in app purchases*
FEATURES:
* Hack Mode: access the code behind your spy tools and edit your own spy tools
* ID Creator: try different disguises, and make a personal spy ID
* Voice Changer: modify your voice, and become an alien, a robot, or even a grown-up
* Code Breaker: crack hidden codes, and send secret messages to your friends
* Missions: embark on your training from the CIA
* The Department of Gadgetry (DOG) will be releasing other features soon...
ABOUT US:
Bright Little Labs is building a kids’ media giant for the 21st century. They make interactive stories to promote critical thinking, computer science and equality for kids aged 5+. Their flagship story is about Detective Dot (http://www.detectivedot.org), a tech whizz who is on a dangerous mission from the Children’s Intelligence Agency (CIA) (http://www.ciakids.org). The company provides a lo-fi and accessible route into coding, with kids joining the CIA to complete STEM-focused ‘missions’, on and offline.
Starting on Kickstarter in 2016 with a book and online spy-club, Bright Little Labs was part of the Cabinet Office backed tech-for-good accelerator: Bethnal Green Ventures (https://bethnalgreenventures.com). In 2018, they partnered with Turner (https://www.turner.com/pressroom/turner-international-and-bright-little-labs-sign-strategic-equity-investment) (who own Cartoon Network!!!) to make cartoons, games and more books.
Bright Little Labs are widely recognised for their story-led approach to 21st century skills, and were named ‘Top Coding Toy for Kids’ by the Evening Standard in 2018 (https://www.standard.co.uk/shopping/esbest/kids/toys-games/best-educational-coding-toys-and-games-for-kids-a3826066.html) and the Independent in 2017 (https://www.independent.co.uk/extras/indybest/kids/gifts/best-coding-toys-for-kids-games-2017-apps-software-laptop-robot-for-beginners-a8029061.html), and received the EDF Stem Pulse Award in 2017 (https://www.wired.co.uk/article/startups-bring-fresh-air-to-energy).
Their founder and CEO, Sophie Deen, is an active advocate for diversity in kids’ media and in the tech industry. She was named one of Computer Weekly's 'Most influential women in UK IT' in 2018 and 2017, the Barclays/Everywoman ‘Startup Founder of the Year’ in 2017, the British Interactive Media Association's ‘Innovator’ in 2017, and London Tech Week’s ‘Changemaker’ in 2018 for her work to inspire all children - regardless of gender, ethnicity or background - into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths).
