ABOUT
Neuma App by NeumaScape Studio is available exclusively through I-ACT. Neuma App helps you achieve creative and relaxed altered states of consciousness such as: vibrational stage, hypnagogic state, lucid dreaming, out-of-body experience (OBE, astral projection) and other intuitive, energy mindfulness or psi states.
Neuma app can be used stand alone or in conjunction with other conscious tech like I-ACT's Phazr vibroacoustic platform and NeumaScape's upcoming NeumaPod.
Though not designed to diagnose or treat any condition, related altered states may correlate with:
- insight and learning
- pain and discomfort relief
- sustainable, humanistic, altruistic mindsets arising from a greater sense of unity with nature, humanity, the Planet, or the cosmos ("the overview effect")
- inspiration, intuition for self-awareness and a more meaningful, creative life
- achievement of altered states without the use of potentially harmful and addictive substances
The app is based on the Punctuated Progressive Procedure (P3) method developed and researched by Nelson Abreu, BSEE, PE and developed by Ali Bashiri. The P3 method was first presented at Society for Scientific Exploration in 2006 in Utah. Research demonstrating effectiveness for novice and intermediate practitioners to achieve advanced states like deep relaxation and OBE was presented at ICC 2017 in Miami and CSTS 2017 in Shanghai.
Nelson began his explorations and education efforts into drug-free altered states in 1998. He began volunteering and teaching at International Academy of Consciousness (IAC) in 2003 and interned at the Princeton University PEAR laboratory, later joining the International Consciousness Research Laboratories (ICRL) consortium.
In 2015, he co-founded I-ACT to develop practical, everyday applications of his research and experiences from the past two decades with a diverse and seasoned team of fellow consciousness explorers. I-ACT offers mentorship, community, training and technology for individuals, communities and organizations to enhance well-being and performance. He is one half of NeumaScape Studio, a design outfit led by Manori Sumanasinghe, B.Arch.
This is just the beginning! Expect additional modes and features in the future.

HOW NEUMA APP WORKS
1. LUCID SLEEP MODE
Prepare to lie down or recline comfortably for 40 to 80 minutes. Our objective is to get your body practically in a sleep state, without you staying unconscious for too long. In this "mind awake, body asleep" condition, you are more likely to enter transformative, extraordinary states of consciousness.
To do that, set the sequence of timers to sound alarms after the given lengths of time. Each alarm sounds (or vibrates in vibrate mode) for a few seconds.
We recommend you keep the phone in a soft volume or in vibrate mode. The phone should be in airplane mode so as to avoid other disruptions.
In the beta version, the consecutive periods of time are pre-set to 40, 20, 10 and 5. In future releases, you will be able to adjust these.
So, with the alarms set to default 40, 20, 10, and 5, if you were to press start at 00:00 and lie down, the sequence would go as follows:
At 00:40: First alarm will ring or vibrate and stop after a few seconds. This will either wake you if you fell asleep or let you know the first period of time is up.
This allows you to relax deeply without worrying about falling asleep for a prolonged period. We recommend you breath deeply for a minute, stretch and release tension, remain still, and then just allow your body to sink in to your bed, recliner or comfortable mat.
At 01:00: a second alarm rings or vibrate and then stop on its own, so you do not have to move.
At 01:10: the third alarm rings
The alarms will then occur every 5 minutes (01:15, 01:20, 01:25...) like an auto-snooze function. The objective is for you to reach a state of "body asleep and mind awake."
