******************** THE ORIGIN & HISTORY ********************

K-pop (short for Korean pop) is a classification of music from South Korea, popular in the earl 1990s, that features a broad variety of “audiovisual elements.” All popular music from South Korea comprise the K-pop genre, but K-pop usually describes modern South Korean pop music that covers pop ballad, dance-pop, electronic, rock, hip hop, as well as rhythm & blues.

The music captured the East (particularly Japan) and Southeast Asian music markets, then as part of the Korean Wave, it spread to other regions like Latin America, North Africa, Northeast India, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, as well as certain parts of Western nations. Notably, the internet and social networking services helped propagate K-pop to many regions. With proliferation of K-pop, the K-pop music market enjoyed double-digit growth rates since the middle of 2000s. Time magazine took notice and hailed K-pop as “South Korea's Greatest Export.”
