This app provides an English interpretation of the I-Ching divinations (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Ching)
Simply select the one of the sixty-four number on the app to display the corresponding English translation of the divination verse as well as its interpretation.
This app also have a divination page, where you make six tosses to derive with a hexagram reading. Each hexagram contains an overall outlook/judgement (卦辭) about the divination; the symbolism statements (象辭relating to the upper and lower 8 trigrams 八卦); and a short hexagram statement (彖辭 tuàn).
Change lines appears when there's variability in the divination. during such times, a changing statement (爻辭) is shown to supplement the IChing reading.
What is a I-Ching Divination?
The I-Ching (易经) also known as Classic of Changes or Book of Changes, is an ancient Chinese divination text and the oldest of the Chinese classics.
An I-Ching divination is a Taoist ritual to seek an answer to a single question or plea.
Traditional methods of divination includes consulting the oracle turtle shell; drawing of yallow sticks; and coin throws - to derive a six-lined hexagram (卦 guà).
Each line of the hexagram is either broken(⚋) or unbroken (⚊) resulting in 64 possible hexagrams.
Each hexagram comes with a statement about the divination and symbolism. This app uses the translation by James legge for its interpretation.
These statements provides an overview about the query (auspicious or not; to go ahead or to change course; etc).
The app also incorporates changing lines (变爻) in the hexagram to reflects the uncertain future of the question asked. During this time, a Changing line statement is read to supplement the hexagram statement.
Effectively, changing lines transforms the main hexagram (本卦) into another (变卦) - it gives the meaning that the future of this divination is in a variable state.
