Part scavenger hunt, part time travel and part immersive exploration of downtown NYC, PlaceChase ColonialNYC is definitely not your parents’ tour guide. Go beyond the sights everyone sees and get out of the group tour crowd. Uncover the city’s secrets and laugh at stories you never imagined possible. We’ll give you the who, what, where and when of both the city’s best-known sights and the unfamiliar places in between. We’ll also explore the untold story of how, why and so what? Experience the real New York at your own pace. You will discover, as you walk through the rich history that makes New York an incomparable place, that the truth is often stranger than fiction.
To make Chasing fun, score points with our scavenger hunt. To keep it stress-free, our questions are all multiple choice, we give you hints, maps, images and the answers too if you like. The Chase is challenging but the answers are always within reach. If you are just not in the mood, skip the hunt and simply enjoy the tour.
This Chase includes 14 Places to discover downtown south of City Hall and will take you 3 to 4 hours.
PlaceChase ColonialNYC takes you on a tour through time from the earliest days of the Dutch settlers, who generously ‘shared’ the Island of Manhatta with the Lenape and paid their African slaves in cold hard currency, to the more mercenary British colonizers who neither paid nor shared anything with anyone, to the American patriots, who professed ‘that all men are created equal’ but who, upon discovering that they had given the women of New Jersey the vote, quickly corrected that error. This is the Place where Hamilton lived, loved and died as the Founding Father who never became President and where Robert Moses butted heads with Eleanor Roosevelt until formally directed by her husband FDR that no, he could not build another bridge here. This Chase tells the story of NYC, its triumphs and tragedies, from the Great Fire of 1776 following the patriots’ retreat from the city to the inauguration of George Washington in 1789, from the celebration of Yankee ingenuity in the long running race for the world’s tallest building, to the trauma of 9/11 and finally the re-birth of this, the city’s famed financial district today.
PlaceChase is a great way to explore the City on your own or with friends and family. Kids will truly enjoy the Chase and its competitive take on sightseeing. PlaceChase will entertain, whether you are on vacation, a day out in the city, a first date or are celebrating an anniversary, as a tourist or as a native New Yorker.
PlaceChase asks a series of multiple choice paired questions. The first question challenges you to identify and locate a key Place of interest. To answer the second question, you must find a clue or feature of that Place, hidden-in-plain-sight but often overlooked. PlaceChase offers hints to help you find Places along your Chase if you need them and an interactive map of where to look. You can always skip any question to continue on your Chase. Once you find the Place and the clue, PlaceChase rewards you with points and reveals the story of that Place, accessible as both audio narration and readable text, along with engaging images that enhance your experience.
Once downloaded, no GPS or other connectivity is required. Once purchased, the Chase is yours. You can play it as often as you like and share the experience with friends and family whenever you choose.
You may enjoy your Chase in a single session or over time, whichever works best for you.
There are no in-app purchases, no data sharing and no advertising.
