"FlashBang" calculates the distance to an event (e.g. a lightning strike) using the time delay between seeing it and hearing it. The audio and visual signals are compared via the cross-correlation operation, extracting the most significant event. The distance to this event is then calculated using the speed of light and the speed of sound. Relevant corrections are applied when possible.
