Mecca Pointer displays a line pointing to Mecca from your current location. This can be used for prayer orientation.
The app also calculates the exact local time of sunset and sunrise, and of true noon.
The angle of sunset and sunrise are drawn on the map. Sunset is shown in green, sunset in red. The approximat5e orientation of the sun is drawn by a shorter pale orange line.
Users may be interested in True Noon for scheduling midday Dhuhr Prayer.
The yellow arrow points in the direction the phone is aligned.
The thicker double white and blue line leads from your present location in the direction of Mecca. \n\nThe yellow arrow should be aligned with this thicker double line. When this occurs, the direction to Mecca is parallel to the long axis of your phone.
Note 1: The Mecca Pointer app needs to know your current location. If you disabled the Use GPS
Satellites Location option, then you will need to re-enable it and establish a new location before the app will
work. This usually requires a clear view of the sky and may take several minutes.
You can check if the Location is known by opening the built-in Google Maps application on your phone, and then tapping the small icon at the upper right. If your Location is not yet known, it will display the message Waiting For Location.
If it has established your Location, then it will instead correctly zoom to your Location on the map where it is marked by a blue triangle. (Remember that this check is outside the Mecca Pointer app and is accessed from the main app screen.)
If you are indoors in a city, the Use Wireless Networks Location option may work instead.
Note 2: The Mecca Pointer app requires a good data connection. Without a data or wi-fi connection, but with an accurate location setting, the app should still work but no map will be visible.
Note 3: The internal compass which controls the Yellow Arrow is magnetic and may be rendered innacurate if the phone is held near metal objects or electrical sources.
These instructions can be activated by tapping the star and crescent symbol at the upper left corner of the app screen.
