CUPUS Crowdsensing App is a free Android app for Mobile Crowdsensing which addresses the problem of air and noise pollution in urban areas. Citizens can use it to sense their environment with sensors built into smartphones as well as wearables connected to smartphones via Bluetooth and BLE. In addition, citizens can choose to share collected sensor readings with others and define special areas of interest for which they would like to receive readings shared by others. Examples are air quality readings generated by wearable devices or noise levels sensed by a phone’s microphone that are shared in real-time.
Supported features:
- Measure surrounding noise level, luminosity, temperature, etc., depending on available built-in sensors. Measurements are generated periodically.
- Connect a wearable device with external sensors via Bluetooth or BLE as sources of sensor data. An example is an air quality sensor measuring pollutant gas concentrations and meteorological conditions, such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, volatile organic compounds, temperature, relative humidity and atmospheric pressure. Users can choose to disable each built-in sensor or wearable at any time.
- Associate sensor readings with a precise phone location obtained from GPS and store it on the phone local storage.
- Share generated readings with other app users using the CUPUS (publish/subscribe) server. Users can start or stop sharing readings at any time.
- Define interest to receive readings generated by you and others for a specific geographic location in real time. You can choose a particular sensor parameter of interest for the location which is defined as a circle around a specific point of interest. Users can activate or deactivate interests (i.e., subscriptions, continuous queries) at any time.
- Receive and display received (aggregated) readings in (near) real time for defined subscriptions.
