Net UPS Status is an open source client for apcupsd. It was developed to allow system administrators to check on their UPS, directly from their iPhone.
In order to function, the app requires a server to which to connect to. That server must have the apcupsd program installed, for downloading see - http://www.apcupsd.org
apcupsd was build by the open source community, as an unofficial alternative to the APC provided UPS monitoring software.
apcupsd supports nearly every APC brand UPS model in existence, even the older, deprecated RS-232 ones
Net UPS Status connects to apcupsd server Network Information Services port and so, the app can display info such as the battery charge level, battery voltage, line voltage, time on battery, number of transfers (between battery and AC) and much more.
Server events, such as Startup, Shutdown, Time and Date of power failure or power restored events are retrieved too, alongside the aforementioned Status information.
Also, the app can be used to manage multiple servers from the same phone :-)
Requirements:
- APC brand UPS, or any other UPS/Battery compatible with apcupsd
- At least one Server - this can be any device that can host the apcupsd service (Note: you can not run the server on an iPhone, the phone is just the client. You can use an embedded device, such as a Raspberry Pi)
- your iPhone
For information regarding the labels of the status information (like BCHARGE means Battery charge), please look at: https://linux.die.net/man/8/apcaccess (the man page for apcaccess)
Support:
If you happen to encounter any issues, any glitches or incompatibilities, I am more than happy to help, please contact me using the information on the support link provided.
But please, before contacting support, make sure in your apcupsd.conf, you have NISIP parameter configured to be accessible to your LAN and also check your firewall config allows connections.
Both Net UPS Status and apcupsd were developed independently from all software developed by American Power Conversion
