The IESS, 2047 is definitely an aggregation of all the energy demand and supply numbers under different scenarios, and thus, mimics the future.
The tool has been built with the help of knowledge partners. The process included getting their views on broad estimates, of the likely prices of different technologies/fuels in the long term. They have in turn sourced this information from multiple agencies, including the industry. Along with the present day prices (in many cases of 2012), the tool provides their assumptions of reduction in the cost of technologies, as well as a point estimate between the high cost and the likely lower cost in the time horizon, i.e., 2047. It also provides land use estimates, emissions levels and derives example pathways ranging from the least efficient scenario to the most efficient.
It will offer a platform to facilitate academic and policy discourse about the possible future pathways for the Indian energy sector and enable prioritizing some potential policy interventions for deeper analysis.
It will help users understand the wide realm of possible energy pathways available to the country from highly pessimistic to highly optimistic scenarios.
For each scenario in this range of possibilities, it will provide indicative numbers for demand and supply, and potential implications on issues such as import dependence, cost and land requirement.
The IESS, 2047 has been developed expressly as an energy scenario building tool. The guiding ambition of this is to develop energy pathways leading up to the year 2047, comprising of likely energy demand and supply scenarios. The tool has been so developed, that it can create hundreds of scenarios with different combinations of levels/efficiencies of energy demand and supply sectors. Since the Excel model in the IESS, 2047 has the capability to aggregate both the energy demand and supply choices of the user, it is a handy tool to suggest measures to shift the energy pattern in such a way, that the country’s energy security considerations are advanced.
