Tired of the BPlate crowds?
Looking for a quiet place to study?
Want to work out without waiting in line for equipment?
Use the CrowdZen app!
View real-time crowd information!
Use our scheduler to plan your activities around the crowds!
Our Anonymous Crowd Analytics Platform (ACAP) privately collects and processes your location only in popular areas in order to publish Publicly Accessible Data (PAD).
Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
To prospective participants. Your participation in the research study is voluntary. The purpose of the research study is to demonstrate the practicality of software which performs privacy-preserving stream analytics yet provides social good by enabling individuals to view real-time crowd information at selected points of interests in order to better optimize their time and schedules. If you agree to participate we will ask you to to install our app which automatically, yet privately, collects location information periodically every few minutes in the background. Participation of data collection is optional. However, in order to view the real-time map trends we require all users to be registered and logged in to ensure only those with a ucla.edu email address have access to the app. We only collect and store registration information. We do not collect or store your actual location information, rather we anonymize and privatize your location data. If you have any questions please contact either Mario Gerla (gerla@cs.ucla.edu) or Joshua Joy (jjoy@cs.ucla.edu).
If you have questions about your rights while taking part in this study, or you have concerns or suggestions and you want to talk to someone other than the researchers about the study, please call the OHRPP at (310) 825-7122 or write to: UCLA Office of the Human Research Protection Program, 11000 Kinross Avenue, Suite 211, Box 951694, Los Angeles, CA 90095-1694.
