Archistoire Toulon reveals the history of the city through an urban exploration guide of a new kind, focused on architecture.
Rediscover the historic city center of Toulon and its hidden heritage:
How does the medieval structure still influence city planning today? How are its architectural eclecticism and its historical importance as a port linked?
What ingenious processes have improved the living comfort of Toulon over the centuries?
The city of Toulon has seen a deep urban renewal for some years now, but it still bears the traces of its past.
Go to the heart of Toulon to start the experience. The application uses your location and shows you remarkable sites nearby. Use your smartphone to look around and explore locations in 360 °: inspired by augmented reality and virtual reality, Archistoire Toulon uses the principle of interactive panoramas.
Photographs from archives, vintage postcards, paintings or engravings are superimposed on the interactive panorame to open up a window to the past which lets you catch a glimpse at the past or future of the city. Touch the interactive areas on the screen to gain access to exclusive content attached to the observed objects: historical anecdotes, architectural or urban details.
The application Archistoire Toulon also allows you to virtually visit places inaccessible to the public, such as the backstage of the Opera!
The experience is optimized for the usage “IRL”, but the application can also be used to go on a virtual tour of the old center of Toulon. The content of the application was developed by the CAUE Var and the cultural engineering agency 9b +, and is exclusive to the app.
The app works without the need for an internet connection once downloaded to the smartphone.

Archistoire Toulon is a project by the CAUE Var and the agency 9b+ in Toulon.
All the contents of the application were written by CAUE Var and 9b+, with the assistance of the City of Toulon, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Var, and the Department of Var.
PRODUCTION
The application Archistoire Toulon is a production realized in Toulon and Berlin, brought to life by the partnership between the studio Syntop (interaction design and scenography) and the agency 9b + (strategic design and museography).
The purpose of the Syntop / 9b + partnership is to imagine outstanding and innovative experiences serving cultural and tourist visitors.
