The Sister city relationship between San Francisco and Osaka isn’t San Francisco’s only sister city relationship, but is the oldest, founded in 1957. This year will be the 60th anniversary, so we will be celebrating Osaka Matsuri on Sept 23, 2017 in Japantown.
We will have performances at the Peace Plaza. (The pagoda in the center of the plaza was a gift from Osaka.) We will have a food booth serving food that originated in Osaka.
You can find all the details of the festival with this app. It has the schedule of performances and activities, our partners, and some information about SOYNET, the youth delegation from Osaka. Since Osaka speaks their own dialect of Japanese, there’s also a handy phrasebook so you can impress your friends. If you speak Kansai-ben and can’t find a phrase, you can contribute updates to share with everyone else.
