Anger is an intense emotional response which can involve strong uncomfortable and emotional response to a perceived provocation, hurt or threat. It is an emotional reaction that impacts the person physically and spiritually. An angry person may also experience physical conditions, such as increased heart rate, elevated blood pressure etc. The external expression of anger can be found in facial expressions, body language, physiological responses and at times public acts of aggression.
Uncontrolled anger can negatively affect personal or social well-being of the person. In fact, it is equally challenging to be around an angry person. The state of anger can cause psychological/emotional trauma if not dealt with.
Social evils like disputes, quarrels, physical aggression, murder and family issues, like marital cruelties, separation and divorces, have all been associated with anger. Various anger management courses are available for those who are unable to control their anger. These courses are many a times mere experiments and their probability going wrong is also high. This is so because humans, the creation of Allah, are highly complex to understand.
However, there is no need to despair. Allah, the High has provided us the holy infallibles who are guide to us in our worldly as well as matters pertaining to hereafter. The pure household of Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) have discussed the vices of anger and have provided divine solution in their traditions. As
we are aware that the words of the Ahle Bait (a.s.) are the reflection of their divine knowledge, the knowledge received from Allah, our Creator. Hence, these words are not mere experiments but actual solution. We have compiled the various traditions from different aspects of anger and have included
incidents from the life history of the Holy Imams (a.s.) – the real ideal for us.
We dedicate this book to our seventh Imam, Imam Moosa Ibne Jafer, al-Kazim (a.s.), whose title is ‘Kazim’ which means ‘one who suppresses anger’.
May Allah accept our endeavors.
