To improve equity and quality in education by administering research based valid, reliable, efficient, transparent, fair and international level assessments. The best subject matter experts, psychometricians and IT delivery and security professionals will ensure that the current gaps in existing assessment systems are properly identified and bridged.

National Testing Agency (NTA) has been established as a premier, specialist, autonomous and self-sustained testing organization to conduct entrance examinations for admission/fellowship in higher educational institutions.
To assess competence of candidates for admissions and recruitment has always been a challenge in terms of matching with research based international standards, efficiency, transparency and error free delivery. The National Testing Agency is entrusted to address all such issues using best in every field, from test preparation, to test delivery and to test marking.
NTA will work with Government of India, UGC, AICTE, IITs, Universities, School Boards and state governments towards research and develop tests for effective assessment of the target population. When fully operational, NTA will develop, administer and mark about 150 lakh candidates annually across the country and abroad in more than 500 cities and 5000 test centres. The NTAs tests will be scientifically prepared based on rigorous research and will be of the highest quality so that the user institutions can make well informed decisions.
NTA will conduct research and design assessments for improving selections by fair, valid and reliable instruments, expanding teaching and learning opportunities and ushering in an era of scientific testing in the country.

NTA will provide assessments to improve teaching and learning, expand opportunities for individual learners and inform education policy and assessment. As a non profit, government of India organization, NTA will continually seek to improve its assessment capabilities — and to advance the field of educational measurement — through research in a number of areas.
NTA will focus its research agenda around some of the most significant, education challenges facing society today, such as the need to increase sustainable access to a diverse and high-quality teaching pool, to raise literacy levels, and to increase the quality of admissions to higher education.
