I have been developing this live wallpaper for the past several months. It uses random numbers in many ways, and it will never show the same picture twice.
It started out that it would draw a random walk. You press somewhere on the screen to place a rover. Each tick the rovers make steps in random directions, and each step is drawn as a line. Shaking your phone will clear the the screen.
I gradually integrated more options that are all compatible with each other. There are now 16 options that can be controlled and each combination of them will produce different behavior. Some options naturally conflict with each other, so when this happens, a new behavior is created which only triggers when both options are set. An example of this is precession + Black Hole = orbitals.
Furthermore, an option can be either set to a specific value or greyed out (by long clicking) and an option which is greyed out will be randomly chosen every time you clear the screen. When you first start the app, all 16 options are greyed out and randomized, so you will see a full breadth of what the app has to offer.
In addition to the 16 options there are 11 built in themes that you can quickly switch between. 7 of the 11 themes are shown as images in the play store. I suggest when you first use the app, try looking at each theme first. You can select a theme from the Quick Settings button, which is at the very top of the options menu. You can alter the behavior by either setting a value for one of the options or choose to randomize it.
Sometimes when playing with the wallpaper, you may find that the home screen itself gets in the way of the app. For instance, swiping to make graphics changes which screen you are on, and covers up the picture. Or holding in one place on your screen pulls up menus to adjust your widgets. To fix this I created gestures to allow quick access to a play screen, and the settings menu. Hold your phone flat, facing upwards, and turn it to the left like a key to open settings. Hold your phone flat, facing upwards, and turn it to the right like a key to open play mode.
This app does NOT use a large amount of your battery. Although the app does do a little bit of calculating, the majority of the power goes to actually drawing the pixels. Since this app draws at a much lower frame rate than other live wallpapers, and draws only a small portion of the pixels each time, it uses significantly less power. I typically see 1-3% battery usage in the battery usage app.
Features in progress:
If you have any suggestions for new options to add, please leave them in the comments below. Try to keep in mind: will it be compatible with the other options?
I would like to make it possible to save and edit themes. You would perform a gesture when you like the effect on the screen and it would save it as a new theme. Also, you should be able to cycle through your saved themes. I need a new idea for a gesture in order to do this.
Currently synchronized and momentum do not have any effect if orbitals is in effect. A new function will be made for both of these.
I was never quite satisfied with the way the planets and black hole are drawn. I may change the way they are depicted and/or make it possible to observe the strength of their gravity.
