Jesus Christ made an affirmation to Peter, ‘… and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it’ (Matthew 16:18 NLT). Hence, from generation to generation, God’s Church continues to march forward because she belongs to the living God. In the foregone year, the Lord led the Methodist Church Nigeria family through a theme, Chosen to Bear Fruit (John 15:16). John 15 which formed the bases of that theme emphasized on the need to abide in Him in order to ensure fruit bearing. We could see the impact of this in the renewed enthusiasm of our people towards soul winning, spiritual growth and rain of miracles. There again, it was emphasised that remaining in His word would guaranty unending productivity.
For 2017, the Lord has led the Methodist Church Nigeria leadership to focus on GOD’S WORD, MY GUIDE (Psalms 119:105) as the Conference Theme. Concerning hearing and using of God’s word, Jesus Christ used the analogy of a wise builder and foolish builder as recorded in Matthew 7:24-27 (ref. Luke 6:47-49). Those who listen to Jesus’ words and do them are likened to a wise builder who dug deep and hit the rock where he laid the foundation of his house; and such a building would not be shaken by flood or tsunami, wind or typhoon. But the person who is not grounded in the word of God nor does it is like a foolish builder who dug the ground shallow and laid the foundation of his home and such a building does not stand the test of time and disaster.
Hence, the year 2017 is a year of digging deep into the enormous treasures and resources of the word of God, the Holy Bible or the Holy Scriptures where each of us will find true guidance for our lives. This has been reflected in all publications for the year –Discipleship 2017; Sunday Tonic 2017; Daily Reflections; and Young Minds Reflections. In this trying times in our Nation and with the global phenomenon of economic, social and political uncertainties, a person needs to be armed with the Sword of the Spirit, the word of God which is Sharper than any Two-edged Sword so as to be able to withstand all the fiery darts of Satan and to also launch offensive into the devils kingdom to rescue the perishing.
We are highly indebted to His Eminence Dr. Samuel Chukwuemeka Kanu Uche JP, our dear Prelate, for the inspiration, encouragement and personal contribution to the 2017 Daily Reflections. We also wish to pay special tribute to the immediate past Secretary of Conference, Rt. Rev. (Dr.) Chibuzor Raphael Opoko TFG, for the years of cooperation and support for the Directorate of Evangelism and Discipleship from its inception till date. On behalf of His Eminence, I wish to express profound appreciation to all our contributors and editors for the great sacrifice and devotion toward the production of these materials. Worthy of appreciation are the Deputy Director of Evangelism, the Evangelism Officer and other staff of the Directorate for a job well done.
By the mercies of the Lord and most assuredly, as you prayerfully and meditatively use all our products this year, God will sharpen your life with the Word and you will be a victor of all times to the glory of His name. God bless you.
