The Tät app has information and lifestyle advice about stress urinary incontinence and features a pelvic floor muscle training programme, along with reminders and user statistics. It is available in English, Swedish, Arabic, Finnish, Spanish and German. The app has been evaluated in a research study where 9 out of 10 women using the app improved. The use and the effect of the treatment is monitored through questionnaires integrated into the app; see www.econtinence.se
THE TRAINING PROGRAMME
The Tät app provides a pelvic floor muscle training programme in six basic and six advanced levels, information and advice. Four different kinds of “contractions” are described. It contains help functions, ability to create reminders, visualisation of each level of training, and a statistic function. It is developed for treatment of stress urinary incontinence in women. The app is also used by many women for pelvic floor exercises during pregnancy and after delivery.
RESULTS FROM RESEARCH
The effect of the mobile application has been evaluated in a study where 123 women were randomised to 3 months treatment with support of the smartphone application, or to a control group. Nine out of ten women in the app group improved, compared to two out of ten in the control group. For detailed results, see www.econtinence.se, under "Publications”.
ONGOING RESEARCH
In order to follow the use and the effect of treatment when the app is freely available, there are some questions integrated into the app regarding age, gender, education, residence (urban or rural), pregnancy, and urinary leakage. After three months there are follow-up questions regarding urinary leakage and exercises. Answering the questionnaires is voluntary, and entered data is anonymously transferred to the research database. The answers cannot be traced to a specific user or telephone number. The study is approved by the Regional Ethical Review Board, Umeå University (Dnr 2014-389-32M, Dnr 2017-405-32M). More information at www.econtinence.se.
This app is CE marked in accordance with regulations for medical devices class l (LVFS 2003:11).
