Udupi is a city in the southwest Indian State of Karnataka. It is the headquarters of Udupi District. The Town Municipal Council Udupi came into existence in 1935 and was notified as City Municipal Council in the year 1995. Areas around Udupi, such as Manipal, Parkala, Malpe, Udyavar and Santhekatte were merged to form the City Municipal Council. The upgraded CMC expanded into area of operation to Kadavoor, Puttur, Shivally, Herga and 76 Badagubettu Panchayat Areas and enlarged the scope of its activity to about 70 sq kms.
The administrative headquarters of Udupi district is Udupi town. Udupi, also known as Rajata Peetha and Shivalli (Shivabelli), a centre of pilgrimage, is situated about 60 km north of Mangaluru and about 422 km northwest of Bengaluru.
During the monsoon period i.e. from June to September there will be heavy rains due to which there will be complaints of road side drain blockages storm water blockages, tree fall due to strong winds and other rain related complaints. To address the complaints round the clock municipality set up a control room, a dedicated phone number and deploy the task force team. The task force team will be headed by the Municipal Commissioner under him the entire staff of municipality is divided in to three shift teams. The municipality will deploy its earth moving equipment's, tippers and manpower equipped with required tools and equipment's.
Udupi municipality intends to improve its response to the complaints by bringing a smart phone application so that public can download the application in their smart phone and lodge their complaints through the application along with the photo or video. The complaint will reach the corresponding area task force team head instantly along with the GPS location of the complaint and also to the control room.
