Established since 1860, Gujarat College is one of the oldest institutions in the state of Gujarat. Located in the heart of the city of Ahmedabad, with a sprawling campus and Victorian architectural buildings, its Arts and Science faculties closely knit the college. It's reputation for outstanding achievements is known world-wide and reflects the intellectual achievements of the students.
Institute has 30 Acres (12.14 hectors) of land right in the center of city and within the city that plays a hub of educational and research institutes of national & international repute like PRL, IPR, IIAR, NIFT, NID, ISRO, IIM, ATIRA, amidst universities like CEPT, Gujarat University, Pt. Deendayal Petroleum University, Nirma University, Babasaheb Ambedkar University, Gujarat Forensic Science University and IGNOU , P.G.Department of Electronics.
At present the college houses 12 departments of Arts faculty, 8 departments of science and a full time degree course in drama. The institute is also having separate buildings for office, library, hostel, gymkhana, canteen, residence for principal, rector, wardens and staff; State Bank of India branch, and Cooperative societies. The institute runs 21 undergraduate courses in all. The institute has a student section to look after admission, registration, examinations, scholarships and other associated activities.
The college has installed multiple high-speed internet connections for every building. We have ambitious plans to update laboratory facilities and to start new and new post-graduate programmmes from the next academic term.
The college is recognized under section 2 (f) and 12B of the UGC Act 1956 and is entitled to receive grants from Government and its funding agencies including the University Grants Commission, New Delhi and few others. The college was reaccredited by NAAC scoring grade 2.83 on four point scale.

Gujarat Arts and Science College visions empowerment and upliftment of students from each and every strata of the society through excellence in basic Science education as well as achieve thorough knowledge in the various disciplines of Arts. Being a Government Institution, it visions to accomplish all the dreams of the Government for upliftment of education status in the state.

To provide higher education to students coming especially from economically backward segment of the regional society. To inculcate and propagate the values of commitment, integrity and self reliance, thus making them globally competent. Enlighten and create widespread awareness of the scientific as well as literary knowledge among boys and girls, thus making them better citizens for tomorrow.
THE MANDATE
To create facilities for quality higher education in the state in the form of a center in the true spirit of education, where knowledge is worshipped for its own sake, where virtue is held to be its own reward in an atmosphere perfumed with peace, love and harmony. To plan, develop, execute and monitor education programs in Arts, Science and allied subjects as per national requirement and in tune with needs of society. Endeavor for strong linkages with industry, research laboratories and professional bodies to provide quality service. Identify the needs of the society and mould the curricula to match with quality education of the global standards and to do all such other acts and things as may be necessary or desirable to further the objects of the Institute and in pursuit of the institutional goals.
