"Glen Iris Junior Football Club, more commonly know as the ""Gladiators"" was founded in 1987. We are a Melbourne based Junior Australian Rules Football Club and in 2013 Season we had over 500 registered players and fielded 20 teams including U12 and U14 Girls sides. The age of our players varies from U9 through to Colts (U16/17) with no senior affiliation.
We welcome both new and returning players and have teams playing in the Yarra Junior Football League - YJFL.
Importantly we are an extension of Auskick, NOT an alternative to it. We accept both boys and girls over the age of 7 years, with training typically on Friday nights in preparation for inter club games played on Sundays during winter.
Our indirect affiliation with Football Victoria allows our older players to be selected to participate in interleague games as well as possible consideration for selection in TAC development squads.
Our aim is to promote the game of Australian Rules Football and development of junior football. In doing so we hope to nurture and enhance the development and improvement of football skills and to promote attitudes of good sportsmanship, temperament, cooperation with others and character in children.
We encourage participation, regardless of ability by maximisation of enjoyment while placing winning in perspective and encourage respect for others including umpires, opponents, officials and fellow players. We strenuously oppose all forms of verbal, racial and physical abuse and to encourage best practice methods of coaching.
We achieve our aims through an environment that encourages family involvement. Our operation is only possible through the support of parents. Each team has a coach and Team Manager. Parents of our players primarily fill these positions. The Club’s Coaching Panel assists the Coaches.
Parents are rostered for match day duties, including runner, trainer, goal umpire, boundary umpire, time keeper, umpire’s escort and ground marshal. We operate canteen / BBQ facilities at our home grounds and again parents are rostered for this duty.
One of the main areas the club was looking to improve on was the way in which it was currently communicating with its players, members, supporters and sponsors.
With a forward thinking and a dynamic board the club was actively pursuing different methods which would enable them to improve on their existing communication channels.
After conducting a review of all the options available to them the club is pleased to announce the release of their first ever native mobile phone app for the iPhone.
