Whip Iqbalur Rahim, MP, hailed from the electoral constituency Dinajpur-3, was born in August 16, 1965 at Munshipara, Dinajpur. He was brought up in a political environment since his father M A Rahim was a veteran politician of Bangladesh Awami League and Member of Parliament. He engaged himself in politics from early 90’s. He had keen interest in politics and as well as games and sports. He had bright and glorious active presence in the field of cultural affairs. As a renowned debtor he earned fame and name at his student life.

Iqbalur Rahim passed the SSC examination with first division as lone student from Dinajpur Zila School. He was all along a scout during his student life. He was renowned for his performance in sports and physical exercise and acrobatic. He passed the HSC examination from Rajshahi University College. He did BA (Hons) and MA in History from University of Dhaka. During his study in University of Dhaka, he was the President of University Chatra (student) League and elected as the Secretary General of Bangladesh Central Chatra (student) League in 1992.

Being born and bought up in a political family, Mr. Iqbal actively participated in politics from his boyhood. He became the first Secretary of Rajshahi University College Chatra (student) League and established himself as an effective political organizer. He was appointed as the President of University Chatra (student) League in Dhaka University. As a President of University Chatra (student) League in Dhaka University, he played important role in students’ movement against autocratic regime. Later in 1992 he became the Secretary General of ‘Bangladesh Central Chatra (student) League’.

Mr Iqbalur Rahim was elected as the Member of Parliament first time from Dinajpur-3 in 2009 from Bangladesh Awami League. He was the member of the Standing Committee on Ministry of Food and Private Members’ Bills & Resolution of Bangladesh Parliament. In 2014, he was again elected as Member of Parliament and appointed as one of the six Whips of Bangladesh National Parliament. He is a strong follower on the life style of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mojibur Rahman.

Mr. Iqbal participated in different international conferences, seminars, programs and events across the globe. He accompanied Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference (COP 15) in 2009. He also participated in Climate Change Program in Rio de Janeiro, “COP16” in Mexico in 2010 and “COP-17” in Durban in 2011. Beside this he accompanied Hon’ble Prime Minister in many international forum. He attended GLOBE Climate Legislation Summit on February 2014 in Washington DC and also attended in GOLBE world summit of Legislators in Mexico city in June 2014. In the same year he became the Secretary of GLOBE International Bangladesh Chapter. He Attended many international seminar/symposium in Australia, New Zealand, England, Germany, France, Belgium, Sweden, Norway, Argentina, Paraguay, UAE, Qatar, Malaysia, Singapore, China, India, Japan & Thailand.

Personal Life:

Iqbalur Rahim is a successful businessman. His father M. Abdur Rahim, a veteran politician of Dinajpur, was Chairman of western zone in the liberation war of 1971. His father was also one of the authors of the constitution of the independent Bangladesh and close associate of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He got married to Nadira Sultana Mukti. He is blessed with two daughters Ishrak Marzia and Raisa Mumtahina and a son Rafidur Rahim. He is well known in his constituency for his charity works like providing scholarships to the students and establishing mosques, temples, schools, colleges and many other infrastructures.
